Summary

The untold story of Sherlock Holmes’ greatest rival, Moriarty!

Before he was Sherlock’s rival, Moriarty fought against the unfair class caste system in London by making sure corrupt nobility got their comeuppance。 But even the best-intentioned plans can spin out of control—will Moriarty’s dream of a more just and equal world turn him into a hero…or a monster?

After successfully establishing a foothold in Durham and cleansing the city of some of its corruption, William James Moriarty sets his sights on London。 To make headway there, he needs the aid of his brother Albert。 But while on his way to London, Moriarty is kidnapped by a gang of criminals! He needs Albert sooner than he thought, but will Albert be able to save him in time?

Loved the Noahtic arc! Very dark and we got an introduction to Sherlock! Also the introduction of Watson and Miss Hudson was perfect!

[rating = B+]Much better than the first manga。 The narrative is more forward and focused。 Also, the appearance of slightly douchee Sherlock makes the story rather gripping and leads the reader to want to read the next installment。

I just love everything about this book。 I love mysteries, manga and remakes and this was a perfect mix of that。 I love this Moriarty angle of things。 He's definitely a more darker version of Sherlock。 While Sherlock seems to push the boundaries of the law to get things done, Moriarty does what he wants regardless of the law and will get his end goal。 I just love his character in this book。 Also speaking of Sherlock I was surprised to see Sherlock so soon。 While we get Moriarty and his is boundar I just love everything about this book。 I love mysteries, manga and remakes and this was a perfect mix of that。 I love this Moriarty angle of things。 He's definitely a more darker version of Sherlock。 While Sherlock seems to push the boundaries of the law to get things done, Moriarty does what he wants regardless of the law and will get his end goal。 I just love his character in this book。 Also speaking of Sherlock I was surprised to see Sherlock so soon。 While we get Moriarty and his is boundary pushing ways to get things solved the second half consists of the beginning of Sherlocks story meeting Watson。 I look forward to seeing more from this series but I hope to see more of Moriarty's side because while I've seen so many remakes of Sherlocks story I look forward to Moriartys even more。 。。。more

It will eventually get old seeing Moriarty be so much smarter than those he goes up against, but we're not quite at that point yet。 And the potential solution to that issue, Sherlock Holmes, is introduced in this volume。 This Sherlock is more flamboyant, assured, and socially adept than some portrayals, but he's still manipulative and single minded when it comes to deduction。 Watson makes an appearance too, and h's a pretty standard Watson (and endearing for that as well) It's fun to see his and It will eventually get old seeing Moriarty be so much smarter than those he goes up against, but we're not quite at that point yet。 And the potential solution to that issue, Sherlock Holmes, is introduced in this volume。 This Sherlock is more flamboyant, assured, and socially adept than some portrayals, but he's still manipulative and single minded when it comes to deduction。 Watson makes an appearance too, and h's a pretty standard Watson (and endearing for that as well) It's fun to see his and Moriarty's first meetings and sparring。 The general theme of "secret history" and Moriarty masterminding criminal acts in the name of overturning an unfair social caste system of corrupt nobles is still compelling。 I'm interested to see where this is going。**Thanks to the artist, publisher, and NetGalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

Once again, I found this story about average。 Good, but I'm just not connected to the characters, but maybe it's too quick to judge from only the second volume? The Moriarty boys continue to shore up their plans to bring lasting change to the English social strata, but the appearance of the world’s first consulting detective (whose appearance would be more enjoyably surprising were he not on the cover) is either just what they needed or a fresh problem in need of a solution。Complaining about a deerstalker showing up (Holmes technically never wore them in the books) on the cover of this volume feels a lot like being tetchy about hearing sound effects in The Moriarty boys continue to shore up their plans to bring lasting change to the English social strata, but the appearance of the world’s first consulting detective (whose appearance would be more enjoyably surprising were he not on the cover) is either just what they needed or a fresh problem in need of a solution。Complaining about a deerstalker showing up (Holmes technically never wore them in the books) on the cover of this volume feels a lot like being tetchy about hearing sound effects in space in any of the Star Wars films - there are far more pressing concerns。Your enjoyment of this book is 100% down to how obnoxious you find this interpretation of Sherlock Holmes, who feels like a blend of literary and cinematic sources。 There are lots of viable interpretations of the great detective, but swarthy, gratingly accented martial artist won’t be my favourite any time soon。He shows up after the first case, during a two-parter set on a passenger vessel。 There’s no connective tissue between these two stories, except that they’re far too predictable (I called the ending of both, the first one pretty much immediately)。Both the first stories left me a little flat。 They’re fun enough, but not stellar。 The noble target in the second story being called Blitz Enders (no doubt heir to a lucrative football mine) is still driving me slightly crazy。 His whole schtick is on brand for the cartoonish villainy we’ve seen thus far, but。。。 nothing about him is surprising (although Moriarty’s plan to basically annoy him over the edge is pretty amusing)。At any rate, while this Sherlock is quite the scoundrel, it’s his interaction with Moriarty that has me hopeful for the future。 This book rightly banks on the notion that watching these two square off promises sparks and with the series’ focus on the ostensible villain it should offer a unique take on this。 The small time they spend together is some of the book’s more compelling material。The last chapter is probably the most interesting, setting us on the path of the very first Holmes case (I suspect people in the know will have a field day spotting references), and doesn’t really involve the Moriarty clan at all。 Sherlock needs his Watson first, however, and we also meet the most ridiculously tsundere version of Ms。 Hudson you’ll ever see - she’s one character interpretation I did like。3 stars。 I don’t dislike this book, but it doesn’t feel nearly as strong an entry as the first instalment。 Maybe with the fresh feeling gone, the flaws feel more pronounced; it just feels like something I should be enjoying more than I am。 。。。more

Leading the search is Albert, of course, and well, all I can say is that they are hitting three birds with one stone here。Moving onto the longer arc, William declares to his allies that his plans for reforming the class system and ensuring equality for all has him with a ‘its gets worse before it gets better’ kind of plan for London。 He wants to create crimes so open and shocking that people would have to take notice, and his first target is a Count called Blitz Enders (I did have a chuckle at that name) and the stage is the maiden voyage of a cruise ship Noahtic。 With more people involved, William’s plan hinges on his target, too, but no matter since he has contingencies prepared; what he wasn’t prepared for is a sharp-eyed man whose genius rivals his own。 There’s murder and mayhem and a shocking scandal to rock the House of Lords and tip the balance in the favor of the House of Commons。William, though, gets interested in using Sherlock in his grand schemes。 This was interesting because I thought the way their paths would cross and entangle into each other would be Sherlock messing up William’s plans, but instead William wants to make him the ‘hero’ of his grand plans, unwittingly, of course。 Sidebar - their first meeting with each other was amazing! Both of them being surprised with the deductive skills of the other, and William having the upper hand, for now! Will Sherlock unknowingly be a perfect puppet for William, or will he keep surprising the latter? I’m eager to know! The book also starts off a new arc (and William’s first plan regarding Sherlock), introducing us to Watson, Ms Hudson and Lestrade! Watson is already amazed by Sherlock, and I can’t wait for him to be as exasperated as Ms Hudson, haha。 Oh, and I feel like Sherlock's actions towards her in the tavern are unwarranted, when she considers him family。 Finally, with the cliffhanger in this one, the next book can’t come soon enough!Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review from Viz Media LLC, via Edelweiss。 。。。more
